Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) released a press statement on Sunday that its IT staff have found fraudulent access on its data systems and the trouble was caused because of a 3rd party file sharing service used by the bank officials to share critical information.
Adrian Orr, the Governor of RBNZ, confirmed the incident and added that the data breach did not impact any core operations of the bank as per the preliminary details available to him. However, the company has assured that it will release a fresh statement after a couple of days on the issue, as a team of cyber experts are still investigating it.
NOTE- In August 2020, the stock exchange of New Zealand was also hit by a DDoS Cyber Attack mildly disrupting the stock exchange operations for four consecutive days. After the incident, the RBNZ has warned all financial institutions operating in New Zealand that they might be targeted eventually, as Cybersecurity incidents on banking institutes were on the rise.
Coming to the second Cyber Incident, Virtual software offering company Citrix has made it official on Friday last week that it was hit by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that might have impacted its Application Delivery Controller Devices (ADC).
Technically, Citrix offers ADC Devices to ease up application delivery and load balancing, and a DDoS attack on such solutions might have disrupted the company operations to its users to a certain extent.
