As the stage is set for Joe Biden to take the oath as 46th US President, his favorite exercise bike dubbed Peloton Bike is in news for all wrong reasons. Some security experts say that like any other technology, this online connected stationary bicycle is also filled with security vulnerabilities that when exposed to hackers could lead to trouble.
Technically, a $2500+ worth Peloton Bike used by Joe Biden (like any other fitness enthusiast) allows its users to remotely take part in classes that are streamed online from the company’s fitness studio by popular fitness instructors such as Robin Arzon, Jess King, Alex Toussiant and Ally Love- albeit they pay a hefty fees.
Joe Biden before becoming a president used to workout on a Peloton bike to keep himself healthy. And his regime was streamed online during the spring by the New York Times to encourage people to exercise to keep themselves fit during the pandemic.
Now, as Peloton Bikes have inbuilt cameras and microphones on their tablet screens, experts say that this can lead to cyber troubles like eavesdropping, espionage, and in some circumstances breach the privacy of users by invading their rooms.
Popular Mechanics, a science and technology magazine, has warned the Biden administration that bringing the Peloton bike to the white house could lead to security risks. And it can only be solved only if the security service and the National Security Agency have done their customization related to the required Cybersecurity measures.
We all know that Presidential Security is always about balancing the needs of the leader with regards to the security risks. And the white house knows well how to achieve it.
Well, when Michelle Obama could use a modified Peloton, so does the President Joe Biden…..isn’t it?
